Coastal views, fresh seafood, traditional temples and spectacular sunsets
Short trip from Osaka to Onomichi

I recommend this course!

Profile

I've enjoyed living in Japan for nearly half my life and am fortunate to have enjoyed activities like photography, triathlon and teaching which have taken me to various locations.
In 2000, I co-founded GetHiroshima.com which led to a tourist map and magazine. This has deepened my understanding of Hiroshima as well as my love for travel. I'm intrigued by the bright lights of exciting urban areas as well as the serene landscapes of rural communities.
I hope to offer great advice to newcomers on activities that protect local heritage, and promote environmental stewardship.

Located along the Seto-inland Sea in Hiroshima prefecture, the area in and around Onomichi city is interesting to explore. A popular start for cycling adventures, the city center has a lively atmosphere with a nice waterfront offering a good variety of Japanese and international dining. It’s a very walkable city around the main train station, from the shopping street, up the temple walking paths to upper viewpoints. Short drives further afield over bridges to nearby islands offers beautiful scenic views. There are many options for interesting walks, cycling, beach play and traditional sightseeing spots reminding of a bygone era. These following six spots are recommended for visitors travelling by car who want to more deeply experience the charms of Onomichi city and its surrounding islands.
