A walk through the nostalgic town along the canal
Short trip from Osaka to Kurashiki

I recommend this course!

Kenji Chida / I'm from Baltimore, USA / I have lived in Japan for 19 years.

Profile

I came to Japan to experience Japanese culture and daily life.
I've only lived in Okayama Prefecture so I feel a special connection to this part of the country.
Since I’m originally from the east coast of the United States you could say that I’m from about as far away from Japan as you can be. Even though this is the case, I was attracted to the country as a university student when I was studying introductory Japanese. Eventually, after spending some time here, I found a niche for myself.

The area along the canal that runs through the Bikan area is lined with quaint shops that transport you back to Edo era Japan. The authentic storefronts are accentuated by flowering trees. It is the perfect place for a photo or just quiet time. This area is also great for people watching as both international and local tourists flock to this idyllic place.
