Little Kyoto in the north and onsen in beautiful surroundings
Short trip from Tokyo to Kakunodate

I recommend this course!

Profile

I came to Japan in 2013 right after graduating from college. I found work as an assistant language teacher and have been working in that role for the past three years. I primarily work at a local middle school, but I also visit some elementary schools throughout the week. I enjoy every minute of my Japanese life and I hope you have a great time when you visit.

Kakunodate is a beautiful, small town located in the countryside of Akita Prefecture. Rich in history, culture, and natural beauty, You will often hear Kakunodate referred to as “Little Kyoto” due to the beautiful cherry blossoms that line the Hinokinai River which runs near the center of town. They also line the streets of the nearby Samurai District, which has some the most well preserved, authentic samurai residences in Japan which were established in Kakunodate over 300 years ago. The samurai houses are open for viewing and tours all year round. Do not forget to explore outside the town with rich nature such as Lake Tazawa and Nyuto Onsen.
