One of Japan's top three ancient hot spring villages
Short trip from Osaka to Arima

I recommend this course!

Louise Dendy / I'm from Northampton, UK / I have lived in Japan for 5 years.

Profile

My name is Louise Dendy, I am from the UK and have lived and worked in Kobe, Japan for over 5 years. Kobe has become my second home, and I love it for its diversity. Having mountains and sea, urban areas and countryside, and both Japanese and international aspects means there is always something to see and do. Kobe has so much to offer visitors, and even after many years living here, I still find new things to do and places to go. I hope you will be able to visit sometime soon!

Famous for being a favourite of the feudal lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Arima is an area steeped in history spanning hundreds of years. Many samurai used to visit the hot springs to soak, and geisha would attend to them - this history is why Arima is the only place in the prefecture where working geisha still remain. Although much loved by people travelling to Japan, Arima has been able to retain its charming atmosphere and rich tradition; with quiet spots off the beaten track, the village is a wonderful place for quiet relaxation and reflection once you take a few steps away from the most popular route.
