Tour around Western Fukushima that has a rich feudal history
Short trip from Tokyo to Aizu

I recommend this course!

Warin Sukhtipyaroge / I'm from Minnesota, USA / I have lived in Japan for 3 years.

Profile

I first came to Japan in 2004 to study and spent one year in Tokyo. I returned to Japan two years ago and have been living in the Aizu area. Currently I live in Kitakata and have been teaching English at schools in the neighboring Kitashiobara Village. Although I have lived in major cities for most of my life, my current job outside a large metropolitan area has afforded me the opportunities to explore and appreciate the hidden gems outside of Tokyo.

Aizu is located on the Western side of Fukushima, bordering the prefecture of Niigata. Aizu is rich with history of Japan's feudal period. Visit sites like Aizu Wakamatsu, the site of the Tsuruga Castle that was the seat of the daimyo and the ruling center of the Aizu area, and other sites such as Ouchi-juku, a former post town that was used before the Meiji Restoration. Along with a trip to the Aizu Samurai Residence, you can explore the abundant history of the Aizu area, as well as experience workshops such as traditional Japanese archery. Not only is Aizu famous for its wonderful history, the area is also famous for its sake and ramen. You can visit various sake breweries that include tours that will show you not only the process of sake brewing, but also a little history as well. Kitakata is famous for its ramen, one of the three most famous ramen of Japan.
