Hop on a Shinkansen bullet train to the southernmost point of Hokkaido.
Short trip from Tokyo to Hakodate

I recommend this course!

Ma Li / I'm from Shandong Province, China / I have lived in Japan for 10 years.

Profile

I am from Qingzhou in Shandong Province. It is hard to believe that ten years have passed since I first came to Hakodate, Hokkaido, with my husband in 2007. It was in this city, known as the gateway to Hokkaido, where my son and daughter whom I love so much were born. Here I have enjoyed an ordinary, hectic, and yet extremely fulfilling life. I am incredibly thankful to all those who have provided me with constant support in this distant land — my family, friends, students, and colleagues. I consider myself lucky to have been able to share with you my love of this seaside town, and the joys of living here.

The Shinkansen service to Hokkaido has been in operation since March 2016. It is convenient to travel from Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, the final stop of the shinkansen line. From here, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes train ride to downtown Hakodate. For three consecutive years, Hakodate has clinched the number one spot in Japan's best cities' ranking. Check out the magnificent night view of the city from Mount Hakodate. This view has been awarded with three stars rating in the Michelin Green Guide Japon. At the foot of Mount Hakodate, there is the Motomachi. It is an area which has many historical buildings of different religions. Walk around this area, you can feel a sense of peacefulness. There is also a hot spring where you can catch a glimpse of monkeys bathing. A variety of food can be found in Hakodate, from gourmet Michelin-starred restaurants to affordable ramen stalls. The selection will definitely excite the foodies. Have a relaxing time in Hakodate.
