Seeing the treasures, shrines, and temples from the Edo Period
Short trip from Tokyo to Nikko

I recommend this course!

Kelsey Lechner / I'm from Fort Wayne, USA / I have lived in Japan for 3 years.

Profile

I am from Indiana, a rural state in the US. I love animals, and volunteer regularly at shelters. My other hobbies include dance, calligraphy, and eating. I also like to travel whenever I get the chance, and have been to over half of the prefectures in Japan. I currently work for the Tochigi Prefectural Office as a Coordinator for International Relations.

Even though I have been to Nikko many times, I always learn or experience something new each time. The blend of Buddhism and Shintoism, as well as the modern and the new, are really iconic of Japan. Each season also gives a different vibe to every location, so it is very much worth coming time and time again! Nikko is furthermore a massive area and can’t truly be experienced in just one visit. The food surrounding the main shrine and temple areas is also not to be missed – make sure you try some of their renowned yuba (tofu skin) cuisine!
