Short trip from Kyoto to Iga

I recommend this course!

Yang Ying / I'm from Shanghai, China / I have lived in Japan for 4 years.

Profile

I've been living in Japan since December 2012. Surrounded by mountains, Iga-Ueno is so different from Shanghai's skyscraper cityscape. With the lush mountains and river, it's full of nature here. I've gotten used to these surroundings and even acquired a driver's license to travel around Japan.
During my second year in Japan, a friend introduced me to the local tourist association where I started working. My main job is to take care of overseas tourist groups and interpreting. After two years, my status was changed from a temporary worker to a full-time employee. It's busy every day and Iga-Ueno has become my second hometown.

Located between Osaka and Nagoya, Iga is known as one of Japan's ninja birthplaces. In a basin surrounded by mountains, this castle town is along an old road having deep historical and cultural ties to Kyoto and Nara. Ueno Park's elegant Iga-Ueno Castle is an Iga landmark. The park also has the Iga-ryu Ninja Museum preserving and displaying Japan's most diverse collection of ninja implements and artifacts. Learn about traditional ninja skills by throwing shuriken knives yourself. The museum also has a ninja show where ninja performers use swords and spears. You can also rent a ninja costume and walk around the castle town visiting the many confectionary shops that remain from the old days. Experience Iga's local friendliness.
