Mt. Fuji, World Cultural Heritage abundant in nature, and source of artistic inspiration
Short trip from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji

I recommend this course!

Ryan Hunt / I'm from Toronto, Canada / I have lived in Japan for 17 years.

Profile

I have been living in Japan for the past 16 years, including Hokkaido, Chiba, Nagano, Tokyo and Yamanashi. I currently live and work in Fujikawaguchiko Town, the Fuji Five Lakes Resort Area of Yamanashi. I have worked as an English Language teacher in the public school system and in helping the town with its tourist information and web page needs. I am blessed with a wonderful Japanese wife and a two year old daughter. We spend most of our free time exploring and delighting in the natural, cultural and historic beauty of our area.

Mt. Fuji is Japan's highest mountain and is flanked on the north by the beautiful Fuji Five Lakes area. The image of the snow-capped, volcanic mountain, with its near perfect symmetry, is one of the most iconic images of Japan and popular among visitors with many tourist attractions such as the 5th station of the Fuji Subaru Line or excursion boats on the lakes. Mt. Fuji was designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2013, rather than a natural site as most people imagine. The designation, including 25 cultural components, reflects not only the natural beauty of Mt. Fuji, but more specifically, the deep cultural, historical, and spiritual importance of the sacred mountain. The World Heritage designations recognize the many shrines, buildings and pilgrimage routes dedicated to Mt. Fuji over history. This route to sacred Mt. Fuji will leave the visitor with a deep sense of natural beauty and cultural immersion.
